Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?” And the King will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”

Feed the Hungry

Food is a fundamental and basic human need. Food is what nourishes us in order to be able to simply live. Feeding the hungry means providing nourishment through charity and hospitality.

The Missionaries of the Poor provide food every day to the residents of their care facility and provide food to the hundreds of children who attend their kindergarten (for some this will be their only meal of the day).

When able, they provide prepared meals for the poor who surround their monastery and distribute food parcels to families. ​

Give drink to the thirsty

​Water is the very essence of life. To give drink to the thirsty is to offer them life itself.

Every resident of the Missionaries of the Poor care facility in Naga is offered the hydration they need for life. On special days, they even get some juice or soft drink.

Clothing the naked

As well as distributing food to surrounding residents, the brothers also distribute parcels of clothing. Previous groups from Ingham have taken over bags filled with socks and jocks and high quality pre-loved clothing to distribute to those in need.

House the homeless

Having a roof over our heads is a basic human need. It ranks just after food and water among the physiological needs in Maslow’s famous hierarchy of needs.

The Divine Mercy Apostolate Center of the Missionaries of the Poor in Naga is a home for 150 disabled, mentally-ill and elderly homeless persons. This includes special children and children with multiple-disabilities. Activities at the Center include daily prayer, physical exercise and physiotherapy, garden and house-chores, and recreation. A good percentage of our population at the Center receives regular medication for mental illness and other illnesses such as diabetes, epilepsy, hypertension, etc.

The MOPs also undertake house-building projects with visiting groups in which the houses of the very poor are rebuilt.

Visit the Sick

Our health is a gift and blessing. Those who suffer physically also suffer spiritually. The need care for both body and spirit.

The Naga Mission of the MOPs includes hospital visitations and hands-on work among the sick patients at Bicol Medical Center and the mentally-ill at the Regional Mental Hospital in Cadlan, Pili. With the help of visiting medicos from Australia, they provide medical missions to the people of the district. They also provide regular medical care at both their care facility and kindergarten.

Visit the Imprisoned

Separated from loved ones and from society, imprisonment involves a particular form of spiritual suffering.

Many of those in the local psychiatric facility are effectively imprisoned. Previous visiting groups to Naga have accompanied the brothers on their care visits to this facility.
